Maycroft Progress

Six weeks after Jubilee officially launched its renovation of the Maycroft Apartments, demolition is well underway, construction is on track, and hard-hat tours will be available soon for those who want to see the progress firsthand.  
 
“We’re in the ugly phase right now,” said Dorothy Larimer, Jubilee vice president for Property Development. “We’re tearing everything apart. We’re getting the building in condition to install all new plumbing, electrical, heating, and appliances. You tear everything out to the bare bones—like getting to the skeleton,” she said. “Then you put back the muscle and after that the flesh.”

Welcome to the inaugural edition of The Jubilee. Our name comes from the biblical Jubilee and heralds that special time when structural disadvantages are taken apart and a fresh start is extended to anyone who needs it. We’re excited to launch this newsletter in that spirit, to provide you with regular updates on our work, our community, and the opportunities for you to engage with both.

The Jubilee kickoff comes during a particularly inspiring time for Jubilee Housing, which you’ll see as you read further in this issue.

On Thursday, November 16, Jubilee will host a celebration of justice housing to raise funds to help Jubilee preserve more homes that are affordable to families with few financial means and expand opportunities that give residents the support we all need to succeed.

Aurora Milas may be a Californian by birth, but her heart belongs to D.C., where she’s resided off and on for years—the last four at Jubilee’s Ritz apartments in Adams Morgan. Her history with Jubilee Housing goes back much further.
