Financial Empowerment Coordinator

Position Description

As a member of the Family Services Team, the Financial Empowerment Coordinator (FEC) will be responsible for assisting residents attain financial security and prosperity. Programming will focus on increasing assets, expanding knowledge of financial resources, practicing disciplined financial and credit management, changing financial behaviors, assisting residents in securing entitled benefits, and building wealth.

A successful FEC requires the ability to quickly engage and build rapport with residents, program members, and community partners; the ability to convene and lead a group of stakeholders to achieve a shared vision; knowledge and appreciation for financial asset building strategies; and knowledge and comfort with workforce development, financial and credit building services, and adult education resources in the D.C. area.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Director of Resident Life, Financial Inclusion and Economic Empowerment (FIEE) partners and Jubilee residents to implement a transformative economic empowerment program with an emphasis on increasing financial capability, asset building, and employment
  • Coordinate and work with key community partners
  • Educate resident community about Family Services programs and services
  • Teach or coordinate on-site and/or virtual adult financial literacy classes including financial education, credit building, job readiness, skill building, etc.
  • Teach or coordinate on-site and/or virtual youth financial literacy classes including understanding money value, developing financial skills and behaviors, and setting financial goals through saving, budgeting, and planning
  • Provide one-on-one coaching aimed at credit building/credit repair, debt repayment, budgeting, goal setting, and financial stability
  • Assist residents with benefit applications and support through processing, as needed
  • Work with partners to pull credit reports and credit scores, to track changes over time, for all credit building participants and report out data
  • Coordinate services and referrals with external partners to ensure resident needs are met regarding financial goals and job development
  • Utilize case management system to book appointments, track progress, make referrals, and create case notes, ensuring that all files are up to date each week
  • Collect, enter into a database, and utilize data as basis for continuous program development and improvement
  • Provide one-on-one job coaching including resume building, assessing job readiness skills, interview prep including creating an effective referral bridge with outside job development partners
  • Train and supervise volunteers to support programming
  • Conduct outreach to residents to engage in programming and coaching
  • Coordinate, support, and attend resident community building activities
  • Work with Director of Research, Evaluation, and Impact in the reporting of all grant-related tasks
  • With guidance of the VP of External Affairs to provide limited support in recruiting and explaining program and registration of JHI’s Community Solar Program
  • Quarterly review of spreadsheet of participant data to determine who is still receiving benefits and recruit new residents when slots become available
  • Communicate with community solar partners to ensure program is operational
  • Work with Institutional Advancement staff from time to time; provide anecdotal information regarding the value of community solar benefit, as well as other general resident-related successes, across the Financial Empowerment platform
  • Other tasks as assigned by supervisor

Requirements

  • BA/BS in social sciences, Public Administration, Business Administration, Finance or related field
  • Experience working with low-income or at risk populations in one or more areas: financial coaching, job development, budgeting, and asset development
  • Certification in Financial Coaching or Counseling strongly preferred
  • Experience supporting individuals in attaining employment and financial goals
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively across departments and organizations
  • Demonstrated ability to lead collaborative efforts
  • Familiarity with D.C. community resources
  • Proficient knowledge of computers and technology
  • Willingness to work flexible hours including evening and occasional weekends
  • Ability to follow through, multitask, set priorities, and meet deadlines
  • English-Spanish bilingual preferred

Salary Range:

$45,000 – $50,000
