mission & vision

New condos dwarf traditional homes in the Adam's Morgan neighborhood

The White House in Washington DC

Vision
Every person, no matter what level of income, deserves access to quality housing in a supportive community.

Mission
To provide quality affordable housing and expanded life options for people with low-incomes.

"Housing can be the ‘organizing principle’ around which the other important aspects of full life can be assembled"
--James Rouse, Jubilee Housing Board Member

Fit housing is a most basic building block of a full and healthy life. Without the stability and security that comes with adequate housing, mere survival is an overwhelming challenge; but with it, families can raise children in a safe and nurturing environment and persons of all ages can strive toward their larger life goals.

Today in the Nation’s Capital, as in so many other areas of the United States, there is a growing dearth of safe, affordable housing. As the District of Columbia is in the midst of near-record level growth and development, the availability of quality affordable housing is threatened like never before.

“Rising rents in the Washington region pose affordability problems for low- and moderate-income households, including many working families… For example, the median advertised rent for a studio apartment is up 23 percent, while rents for one-and two-bedroom units rose 60 and 84 percent, respectively.”
-- Fannie Mae Foundation, Housing in the Nation’s Capital 2004

But thanks to so many partners and supporters, Jubilee Housing exists as an alternative to current trends and market forces. Neighborhoods and communities can preserve affordable options for all of their residents. Affordable housing and supportive community can be sustained even in the most stressed housing markets.
