“The ancient ruins will be restored by your own kindred and you will build once more on ancestral foundations; you shall be called Rebuilder of broken walls, Restorer of houses in ruins.” (Isaiah 58:12)
Barbara has been walking the streets of Adams-Morgan for nearly forty years through her participation in the ecumenical Church of the Saviour. She has lived in Washington since 1966. Her husband Lewis has retired after teaching English for many years at the University of the District of Columbia. They have two grown sons. A former D.C. public school teacher, Barbara worked with Good Shepherd Ministries, which serves Jubilee Housing youth, for 21 years .“What a privilege to have been a part of the early days of Jubilee Housing. I treasure the memories and the present realities of the 'New Jubilee.' We are, with God’s help, restoring houses in ruin.” Barbara envisions a community of hope and wholeness where each person is learning from the diversity and beauty of the other. “I am very happy to be a member of the Resident Services Team. I am learning a lot from my colleagues who have accepted this old lady with grace and patience.” Barbara hopes for a real partnership with residents, where ideas can be shared openly and mutual learning takes place.
